DISCERNING OF SPIRITS
Saturday, July 13, 2013The gift of discerning of spirit is one such that God’s grace to know and understand the spirit at work in a person, place or situation is given. Discerning of spirits helps to discover lying spirits not just in people or church matters but also in our professional and daily lives. For example on what kind of business to transact in or the kind of people to transact business with, the gift of discerning of spirits guides in what is genuine and what is false.
At this point I would like to state that there is a difference between discerning of spirits and suspicion. They appear in the same shadow and operate with certain similarities but they are different. Suspicion is of the flesh because it’s not based on the information supplied by the spirit of God. Suspicions are based on our fears and worries, but discerning of spirits always has its roots in Christ and the Spirit of Christ having every nudging guided by the Holy Spirit.
Acts16:16-18 talks about the story of Apostle Paul and the lady with the spirit of divination. If we look closely at the story it was said that the lady kept of saying, "These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation" vs 17b. What she was saying was not actually wrong, in fact she was very correct and she said it for many days, for how long we can’t say but it was many and the bible said Paul been grieved cast out the spirit from her.
Lessons learnt!
The fact that it is”Good” or what is said is right does not mean it is God or it is the spirit of God that is at work.
The spirit of discernment responds to the prompting of God’s spirit before and external response is made as led by God. Until the spirit of God prompts to move you are not permitted this is based on how long it took Paul to respond to the lying spirit operating in the lady.
